Sorry for posting in English, but my German is nowhere near good enough to talk about the technicalities of cable TV. I am hoping that someone here lives in Germany or even better in Berlin and can speak English.
I would like to get cable TV, HDTV if possible. My landlord says that TSS is the provider. However, when I go to TSS.de, it redirects immediately to EWT.de. When I check availability on there, it does not know the street (;Charitestrasse 4, 10117 Berlin)
I tried calling, but I completely failed to ask in German :-(;
Can anyone here tell me:
1) What is the difference between TSS and EWT? Are they now the same company? 2) How can I order their service if the website doesn't recognise my street? 3) Is it possible to get HDTV through TSS/EWT?
Thank you!
Marcos

Hi Marcos! I will try to help you. Sorry for my bad english. It is only in use to order pizza or beer.
I am afraid, you got trouble. I think, your landlord has a contract with a company to serv the Berlin cable program. Automatically NO other company is aloud to put their service in to your cable in the house.
That can be the reason; you don't find your street or grounding on the homepage of available areas.
Become a member at
Berliner Mietergemeinschaft eV
Möckernstraße 92
10 963 Berlin
It costs 45 Euro per year and you have a "LAWPROTCTION" after the first day of membership. Than you can work with your landlord with an advocate between.
On the other hand, quit the contract and look for a new let with your technical support.
Einen schönen Tag noch Peter Vogt

No Problem, your're welcome.
> I would like to get cable TV, HDTV if possible.
Hmm, HDTV is a bit a Problem. Currently only a few Decoders are available to show HDTV via Cable. But independent from your cable provider, the only broadcasters to send HDTV currently are the Pro7/Sat1 group and Premiere.
I don't know whether Pro7/Sat1 do broadcast HDTV to cable. For Premiere (;Germanys No.1 Pay-Tv Broadcaster) you'll need an additional Premiere account to see HDTV, which is not cheap.
Additionally, you'll need "HD-Ready" equipment (;comes with lots of DRM stuff).

Have a look at the company information page of EWT. There it lists, that TSS is a daughter company of EWT. TSS in turn holds 51% of BBCom - Berlin-Brandenburgische Communicationsgesellschaft.
So you may have a look at http://www.bbcom.de It lists, that they have a service buero for customers. Probably they may help you.
The homepage lists the service buero at the following address:
bbcom-Servicebüro within "Internationalen Handelszentrum Berlin" Friedrichstrasse 95 / 3rd Floor 10117 Berlin-Mitte Telefon (;030) 2096 1010 Telefax (;030) 2096 1999
The homepage says it's nearby the S- & U- Bahn station Friedrichstrasse.

Maybe you're with the wrong company. Ask BBCom for help. Seems that they're the people to talk to.

And of course they don't speak english ;-)
> Can anyone here tell me: > 1) What is the difference between TSS and EWT? Are they now the same > company?
See above: TSS is a 100% sub-company of EWT.

Contact BBCom. They may help you.
> 3) Is it possible to get HDTV through TSS/EWT?
BBCom may answer your questions on that.
Regards, Martin
PS: I think it's no good idea to force your landlord via a laywer to give you some "proper cable". In turn it's a good idea to join a lodger community like the "Mietergesellschaft". It's always a good idea to know what you're rights are. Maybe they can inform you as well about the bit strange situation in Germany on Cable TV ;-)

Well, three days later, and I've at least confirmed that TSS are indeed the provider.
What is not clear though, even when I asked them, is why my address wasn't found on their website.
They could also not tell me whether HDTV is, or will be, available.
Any ideas who could tell me!!!
Thanks
Marcos

Hm, who confirmed that? Your landlord? The person who confirmed you, that TSS is your provider should also give you a phone number or address where you can ask.

Sometimes, I think, people of some service don't know their web services at all. You should then directly contact the webmaster ;-) (;I encountered a guy at the finance office of my town who said that this "computer and internet thing" is not his interest and he therefore doesn't know what's on their page...)
> They could also not tell me whether HDTV is, or will be, available.
Who is "they"? Are you sure you talked to the right persons? What about the service buero I told you?
> Any ideas who could tell me!!!
Seems to me, that you talked to the wrong people. You should provide a bit more information what you did, i.e. with whom you talked.
