I heard all the crowds artists have gone too. This is well into the hundreds.Half of every department if not more is getting cut, these are all artist positions, no lead or sup is at risk except those who were recently promoted by their best friend who is also a lead or sup since they seem to only promote here by friendships and favoritism.
Universal cancelled a film so one crews worth is getting let go plus the spots that are getting cut for outsourcing.
The union isn't doing anything, they just told us to reach out to them which is utter bull shit. The studio is not giving anyone a severance package. There are people here that have been here for 20+ years and are getting the cold shoulder.
To top all of this off DreamWorks upper management wants us to finish the wild robot 3-5 weeks quicker because "the world loved the trailer" just so they can go to siggraph and annecy to show it off while the new end date is so convenient it's before union negotiations. So the union is fucked since there will be no artists employed and won't have any leverage to strike so they can shut the whole fucking thing down and send it up north. This is not natural attrition, this is corporate America trying to save money for their wealthiest tax holders and executives.
Universal sold the DreamWorks campus and is renting it and paying up to 16 million dollars a year in rent and 1/3 of the campus is empty. Things are not going to continue. This was planned out by all the upper management.

Das hat wohl, zumindest teilweise, mit der erneuten, drohenden Streik der Writes Guild zu tun. Der letzte Streik ist gerade bei den VFX-Leuten schon krass eingeschlagen. Dazu die quasi nicht vorhandenen Arbeitnehmerrechte in den USA, und dann hat man von heute auf morgen keinen Job mehr.

Pixomondo schließt ganze Niederlassungen. Digital Domain hatte bereits letztes Jahr Insolvenz angemeldet und erst vor einigen Tagen stiegen viele Artists auf die (virtuellen) Barrikaden aufgrund der Insolvenz von Rhythm & Hues und der erlittenen Oscar-Ohrfeige.
