Blackmagic Design and Fraunhofer IIS Announce DaVinci Resolve 19 with enhanced MPEG-H Audio Capabilities

Fraunhofer IIS, the primary developer of MPEG-H Audio, is proud to announce that the new release of DaVinci Resolve 19 Studio by Blackmagic Design comes with upgraded MPEG-H Audio capabilities. The latest version of their industry-leading video, color grading, motion graphics, visual effects and audio post production software introduces groundbreaking enhancements of its MPEG-H Audio feature, particularly when it comes to authoring and monitoring.

MPEG-H Audio and DaVinci Resolve – a Perfect Match

Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 19 more fully supports MPEG-H Audio authoring, allowing its users to easily create immersive audio experiences. The new additions to the MPEG-H feature set enable content creators to produce personalized and immersive audio. Audio elements such as vocals and instruments can be positioned in a three-dimensional space to perfectly match creative and artistic intent. MPEG-H Audio also makes it possible to define personalization options during production. These result in even better experiences for the audience, ranging from accessibility features such as dialogue enhancement to various audio presets in TV broadcast, and all the way to sophisticated interactive music productions.

The new highlights include:

Comprehensive MPEG-H Authoring: Creators can now intuitively author and monitor MPEG-H Audio, providing more dynamic and interactive audio content.

Versatile Export Options: DaVinci Resolve 19 supports export in various formats including MPF (MPEG-H Production Format), ADM, and S-ADM in MXF, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of professional workflows.

Advanced Monitoring Capabilities: The monitoring tools were enhanced to enable extremely precise control and assessment of MPEG-H Audio content to ensure the output meets highest quality demands. A simulation of a consumer device on-screen display that shows the final view of the MPEG-H Audio personalization interface was directly integrated into the native video player. This facilitates the direct audio/video quality assessment during the finalization and export process.

“We are excited to elevate the audio production capabilities of DaVinci Resolve with enhanced MPEG-H Audio support,” said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. “This update, developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS, underscores our commitment to providing best quality, cutting-edge tools that empower creators to push the boundaries of their craft.”

“Integrating enhanced MPEG-H Audio capabilities into DaVinci Resolve 19 represents a significant advancement in Next Generation Audio. The new tools empower creators to design immersive sound experiences, which enhance storytelling in film and media,” said Yannik Grewe, Senior Engineer for Media Technologies & Business Development at Fraunhofer IIS. “This update meshes MPEG-H Audio tightly with the new AI-based features of this Resolve version, which makes for such a nice and easy production workflow. It is now possible, for example, to have Resolve’s IntelliTrack™ automatically track an audio object in a video, and to define it as an interactive MPEG-H Audio object, cutting the work of the creator in half.”
