I also subscribed to his channel. But I'm not cancelling my order.
I'm sure the a7 IV will have oversampled 6K to 4K and 10 bit (though without un-cropped 60p and certainly no 120p!), so I can always use that as my A or B cam when it is released next year. hehe
This video from Vistek shows how they used the same noise reduction technique as Brandon Li in his "Crossroads" video, with very good results. As anyone can see, although ‘Standard’ gamma has less dynamic range than S-log3, it is much easier to lift the shadows here with less noise and artifacts than S-log3 - proving that while simply being able to salvage grossly underexposed clips may be a useful indicator of latitude in post, it is not a dependable measure of dynamic range!
Counting the actual number of stops above the noise floor on the waveform monitor of correctly exposed clips in the NLE is far more reliable and confirms that the a7s III does in fact have greater dynamic range than Slashcam claims; as well as the fact that it is virtually impossible to clip highlights when shooting S-log3 - much the same behavior as seen with the very best cinema cameras. This uncanny ability to retain extreme highlight detail was really hammered home in Camera Conspiracies’ very first video dedicated to the a7s III, where it is apparent to anyone with two eyes that highlights were handled better than by any other camera he’s ever tested.
The skin tones look incredible to me too!
