QUESTIONNAIRE
1 How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
I hope it has a certain beauty of intimacy.
2 Why did you choose to shoot on dv?
This is the only way of making this kind of films in which the subjective
and personal are interweaved with the universal.
3 What was special about shooting in dv (e.g.compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it)?
This is my first film on dv. I directed lots of films in celluloid or
digiBeta and big professional crews which is great but not for a kind of
film like 'Galoot'. This film was shot during four years, sometimes almost
everyday. The most wonderful moments are the unexpected. You don't have time
(and money) to phone and organise a shooting day. And then when the crew
comes it's too late. But I would say it's not easy this way of working and,
in my view, it needs more professionality, clear vision and determination
than when I had a big crew. And it's physiquely ahard work as well.
4 What was your shoot-edit ratio?
It's difficult to say. Not a high ratio but I didn't check it yet.
5 Would you have preferred to shoot in another format? If so which?
Sure, it depends in the film's conception.
6 Does using dv mean that you are considering other means of distribution
opposing the established? If so which?
The same means of distribution.
7 One good word about dv (or two):
It's bringing back cinema to it's proper artistical realm.
8 One bad word about dv (or two):
---
