Nach ihrem Militärdienst in der israelischen Armee setzen sich viele der jungen Soldaten und Soldatinnen für einige Zeit nach Nordindien ab. Ihre Abfindung investieren sie in Drogen aller Art. Hoch oben in den Bergen sitzen sie vor gigantischen Wasserpfeifen, genießen die Aussicht oder tanzen rund um die Uhr. Doch die wenigsten scheinen sich entspannen zu können. Manche leiden gar unter Wahnvorstellungen und psychotischen Schüben. Aber der israelische Staat hat vorgesorgt, es gibt therapeutische Auffangzentren, Orthodoxe bieten Gesprächsrunden an, während sich ein ehemaliger Mossad-Agent um die besonders schweren Fälle kümmert. Yoav Shamirs Dokumentarfilm zeichnet das indirekte Porträt einer Gesellschaft, die unter permanenter Anspannung steht und nicht weiß, wie sie diesem Druck Luft machen soll. [aus dem Forumprogramm]
INTERVIEW How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
I would call it cinema verité, hand held shooting, shot almost always with the widest angle of the lens following events as they happened close by.
Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
The film was shot in India, and beind a director/cameraman I wanted to be very light and very flexible. I thought about shooting on super 16, but decided that the advantages of working in a guerilla style was more suitable for this film.
Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
I used the HDV Sony Z1. I like to work with Sony and that was their best camera for this size when I started shooting.
What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
I mostly shoot and record my self having a 416 mic on the camera. I needed to be a silent observer, and to be able to move very fast after the events. So a small camera was essential. It is the 4th film I am shooting in this style. I think that our blow up to 35mm proves that it was the right choice.
What was your shoot-edit ratio?

Small, light, easy maintenance.

Bad optics, and big depth of field compared to 35mm
