INTERVIEW How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
I want to say that the only importance is in thinking about how this film tells and shows its story. That’s because the film’s way of expression is what tells the reasons why these people must be a family and why the place had to be a funeral. That is almost entirely what this somewhat boastful and unnecessarily complex film is all about.
Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
It’s hard to say that the only reason for choosing a digital format was financial. A better expression would be to say that digital format was the most effective at the time.
Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
This film was shot with an HD camera. That was the best kind among the limited options that I was able to choose from. I thought about using Super 16mm but considering the effectiveness during post-production, I came to the decision that digital would be more appropriate.
What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
Yes, this film was my first HD experience. But when compared to shooting in film, there wasn’t anything special that I felt. Getting up early in the morning was still difficult, staff was still always hungry, and waiting for the sunlight was still tedious. Nevertheless, I realized the fact that monitoring the footages is much more convenient and clear and post-production is unbelievably fast and simple.
What was your shoot-edit ratio?

One good word about DV / HDV (or two):
One word, mobility. High quality monitoring is possible as soon as you shoot, which allows for faster and smoother communication between the staff. In such case, more time is gained for post-production.
One bad word about DV / HDV (or two):
Well, I think I would need to experience with couple more films to know what to say.
