INTERVIEW How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
In between days has a minimal aesthetics.
Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
It startet from financial reasons but we try to make the best of whatever resources that was available. With video it is much more difficult to make a scene look good so you have to be much more cautious about lighting, etc.
What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
We shot Brad Gray's first feature Salt, which I produced, on DV also. This is our second feature on DV. DV's strenghts are many: small crew, intimacy with cast, cheap, accessibility.. to name a few. But as a filmmaker, it's your duty to use its capabilities to the maximum and have technology serve your vision.
Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
MiniDV - we shot on Panasonic DVX100A 24p. A friend had a camera he can lend us.
