INTERVIEW

How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
The only thing I know is "realism". I expressed which is real to me, and I think many other people would say it 'fable' or 'fantasy'. Except that, I wanted to direct two parts of this film. (first half and second half of the film) in different ways. In the first half, I wanted to do kinds of 'service' to the audience, and in the second half, I wanted to satisfy myself.

Which digital format did you choose to shoot on, and why (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
I shot this film by using 'Panasonic dvx100' only for economical reasons. I kind of missed shooting film by film.

What was special about shooting on DV (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
As you can expect, I had some troubles with expressing depth. However due to economical reasons, I will take another shot in the future.

What was your shoot-edit ratio?
It is hard to get average. I can just say that I did many takes.

Looking back: Would you have preferred to shoot in another format? If so which?
Of course, 35mm film.

One good word about dv (or two):
cheap.

One bad word about dv (or two):
It looks cheap.
