Daneben dokumentarische Momentaufnahmen aus dem alltäglichen Leben an der Peripherie, mit den Hochhäusern von Kampala in Sichtweite. How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
DIVIZIONZ is a neo-realism film about contemporary African youth. We tried to capture as much realism as we could, shooting on location with natural light and letting the camera rove freely through the environment almost as if someone in that environment was documenting the life there. The brightly saturated colour palette of the film represents the life and colour that exists in this minority society.

Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
Purely financial reasons.

Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
We chose miniDV coz it is was we could afford with our no-budget film.

What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
I personally have never used 35mm but I think Digital video has the freedom of capturing moments in real-time without a lot of planning and setting up. This worked a lot in our favour.

What was your shoot-edit ratio?
80 hours for 90 minutes film

Digital Video gives power to the powerless filmmakers and storytellers.
