How would you describe the aesthetics of your film?
AT STAKE is an anthology documentary of four films exploring women's social issues in Indonesia. The aesthetics varies from gritty to glossy but all have a realistic yet informal, intimate feel.

Why did you choose to shoot on a digital format (was it solely for financial reasons, or did aesthetics play a role)?
We needed to be quick and immediate since this is a documentary. Digital gives the freedom and flexibility to capture the unexpected. Digital feels real, so is documentary. Film is more dreamy and atmospheric.

Which format exactly did you choose (MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, HD...), and why?
MiniDV, for budget and flexibility reasons.

What was special about shooting digital (e.g. compared to 35mm, was it your first time with dv or are you used to it ..)?
Digital dissolves the barrier between the filmmaker and the subject. We don't have to worry too much on technicalities. Because it's lightweight, practical, and easy, the camera becomes an extension, an extra hand to the filmmaker.

What was your shoot-edit ratio?
We shot a total of 50 hrs of tape for a 30 min film.
