I've just been handed a 113 minute program on DV that I've got to burn to DVD. Was wondering if anyone out there has used Cleaner instead of QT to mpeg their video before bringing it into DVD Studio Pro? Pros? Cons? This is sort of a rush job, so I DON'T want to experiment, but if someone out there KNOWS that Cleaner 6 do a faster, tighter compression of this video, I'd appreciate some advice. Otherwise, I'll just let QT6 do its thing. cleaner 6 vs QT6 - "Perry Mitchell" From: Kirk Lohse Thanks to Shane and Perry for your posts. Agreed that Cleaner 6's 2-pass VBR is the way to go, but not sure I've got the time to wait for it in this instance. Just visited Wired's (www.wiredinc.com) website and to my chagrin, see that they are still not ready with the new version of digital media press. Hope it's gonna be out early next year! cleaner 6 vs QT6 - "Perry Mitchell" From: Kirk Lohse Shane, thanks for the tip--I'll just wait for the OSX Digital Media Press--wish I'd bought one when they first came out! But OK, it's without their names and it's for the Holy Sake of MPEG authoring. It's by Mac people, but eh...they are not narrow minded... Best, Ton Guiking "I'm a Mac man myself, but I'm doing MPEG2 on a PC with Canopus ProCoder (you can download a demo from their website) and it rocks! In 2-pass VBR mode, it runs rings around my MediaPress Pro board encodings...(single pass VBR)" And another person: "Don't be afraid here, if you don't use the PC for anything else but encoding, it won't bite ;-) Get the fastest CPU (or Dual CPU) you can afford. Everything else like graphics card etc. won't really matter. But it should have either a FireWire connector or a Gigabit Ethernet card for file transfer. Then, depending on you budget, buy TMPGEnc (www.pegasys-inc.com, $ 48) or ProCoder (www.canopus.com, $ 700). You'll like your encodes and you'll free your Mac for creative work, where it excels." Feature film edited on FCP - "Perry Mitchell" Fortunately for me FCP came on the scene and I have not looked back since. I offline and online with FCP and will continue, my clients haven't noticed anything and I am a lot happier. Jeez... doesn't anyone hire a professional anymore? Then again, I have a problem with my left cornea that I may just take care of myself. I found the info from an email list and a chat room. The democratization of ophthalmology is upon us now!
