Comparison between PD-150 and XL1 web site? - Adam Wilt

I don't know if the stabilizer on the PD150 is hugely better than the one on
the VX1000; both seem to work pretty well in my experience.
It's not the same as on the XL1. Canon augments the rate sensors with image
tracking info a la DIS/EIS, which makes for improved stability on quasi-static
shots but also causes "stickiness" on gentle camera movements like the start
of pans and tilts. It's a matter of personal preference which method (pure
rate sensing on the Sonys, rates + tracking on the Canons) is "better."
[FWIW neither Canon nor Sony originated optical stabilization using
fluid-filled prisms. Juan de la Cierva's 1962 Dynalens design has that honor!]

But the PD150 with sharpness down a notch or two is still quite a bit sharper
than the XL1 is, even with the XL1's relatively high (and fixed) level of
enhancement.
Granted, both are severly undersampled on the CCD; neither one is a DSR-300 or
DSR-500 or JVC DV500 or the new Panasonic... but neither one costs as much,
either!
