BeschreibungHaving started out in 1972 as Film International, the International Film Festival Rotterdam has developed into one of the biggest cultural events of the Netherlands. The original principle still applies: focusing on independent and innovative cinema.
TeilnahmebedingungenSubmission to the Festival is open to feature films, creative documentaries, experimental films, short films and innovative visual productions for digital media completed after January 1, 2005. There is no entry fee.

Film formats and video systems that can be presented during the Festival are: 35mm, 16mm, Betacam SP (PAL), Digital Betacam (PAL), DVcam (PAL or NTSC); presentation of other formats and video systems requires the authorization of the Festival.

As part of the official programme the Festival includes two competitions to promote talented new filmmakers: the Tiger Awards Competition for feature length films and the Tiger Cub Competition for short films. Eligible for the Tiger Awards Competition are first or second time directors of a feature length film, 70 minutes or longer. The film should have its world, international or European premiere in Rotterdam. During the festival an international jury selects three winners who will each receive Euro 10.000 in cash, sponsored by public broadcasting organisation VPRO. The prize includes a guaranteed offer for theatrical and television release in The Netherlands.

Eligible for the Tiger Cub Competition are directors (in an early stage of their career) with a short film less than 30 minutes. The film should have its world, international or European premiere in Rotterdam. During the festival an international jury selects three winners who will each receive Euro 3.000 in cash.

The submission deadline for selection purposes, which means the deadline for the Festival's office to receive the required submission materials, are: October 1, 2005 for short films (less than 60 minutes) and documentaries, and November 1, 2005 for fiction features (60 minutes).
