TAPE TEMPERATURE Firewire Hard Drive and OHCI ??? - Perry Mitchell >If you want to use an external disk, you may need an OHCI firewire card and updated drivers. You would then use it for DV capture too. Others have had a few problems with motherboard and OS compatibility with OHCI, so be careful.< and don't assume that if your DV device works on the DO card then it will on an OHCI version! TAPE TEMPERATURE - Perry Mitchell 'drop-out' on a BetacamSP camcorder in Norway, whilst location shooting at the Winter Olympics. Just once I got it wrong and ran out of 'warm' tape and had to get one out of the car. The outside ambient was about -30 celsius but it was bone dry in and out except where there were lots of people. I was mostly shooting in empty machine rooms and stadia. I believe the problem was due to the tape being too stiff to wrap properly around the head drum and therefore to give the correct head/tape contact. The camcorder has a moisture detector but at no stage did this come on or the tape show any sign of condensation.
