Truth or Dare? While I might agree with the perspective that James Tocher has about the fact that there were no live cameras to see on the floor, it was disappointing. But I have to say that the opportunity to tell people in this business about where we are headed at a trade show that is big enough to impact the industry comes but once a year. We actually did have a working AG-DVX100 in the building but it was in a technology suite. The reason it was there was that it was a hand-built camera, and the viewfinder kept going in and out. It would have never made it through the masses in our booth. Empty Promises from Panasonic I think his title is a little premature and wholly pessimistic. How does he know it is a empty promise? He cannot know and if he is referring to the fact that the cameras were not there, shoot, we could call the whole of NAB the same thing. I mean everyone is welcome to their own opinion about why manufacturers do what they do, I have seen it from both sides. I do not see another way to get the story out and get the industry aware of what any real changes are being made. I hope that James Tocher takes the same energy to write about the cameras and their capabilities when they do show up. It is interesting to note how the various media writers chose to look at the situation. I am working with another one that is talking about how it will work, what the features are and giving a more colorful, and interesting picture than this. Two people, two versions. FWIW, Jan 24P Panasonic - "Perry Mitchell" From: Res Alert newsletter(heavily edited) via Lahary Pittman At NAB, Sony's refreshing hands-on demo approach allows anyone to come up and operate any one of their DV or HD cameras from their entire line -- shooting scenes within their mock set with live models and typical lighting situations. The new 25P IMX camera proves to be revolutionary in its own way thanks to its ability to capture frames at a truly progressive 25 frame per second rate, yet onto a standard definition tape. At 720x576 resolution PAL progressive, filmmakers have the added advantage of capturing non-interlaced images at a frame rate and resolution that should transfer beautifully to film. Essentially the promise is for no interlacing artifacts and thus sharper images -- especially during moving shots where PAL interlaced video often suffers. It also switches to regular PAL 25 interlaced for television production. Based on Mpeg 4 technology I am curious to see whether compression will become an issue with the IMX format for more complex images especially for blowing up to 35mm. Stay tuned for testing on that one... 24P Panasonic - "Perry Mitchell" From: Stephen van Vuuren Plus, we were really interested in the Panasonic miniDV cam. However, you found out far less than many of us who never got within 2000 miles of NAB. First, there was a working camera shooting footage. But, it was a prototype only partially working (viewfinder kept fading in and out). It was upstairs in the Panasonic area. They were worried it would break on the show floor and was not quite ready for public showing/fondling. But you guys are press! If you had spent less time drooling over Sony booth models and more time talking to Panasonic, maybe you would have gotten more info than us in the field. (cheap shot, but I could not resist :) 24P Panasonic - "Crittenden, Jan" Perry wrote: Is it proposed to transfer at 25fps and then run it 4% slow? Perry, it is proposed to transfer at 24P. In the PAL unit, since it will not have 24P only 25P, then there will be the necessary slow-down of the base product. But in NTSC world, it will be 24P. >This is the reverse of what we have been doing in Europe for years butit is slightly difficult to believe that it will catch on over that side of the pond! The key difference is that here, in the US, we have had to work with 60i to transfer to film or use PAL at 25P and a 4% slow down for transfer to film. So by offering a 24P product here, we get closer to the native speed of the medium to which it will be transferred. I want to make a cable to power my wireless from that jack. NTSC DVDs to PAL - Jon Burkhart Hi Gang, It's so great to have the DVList back up and running. Been working on a 10 minute DV Video project. The client wants to put it on DVD for distribution around the world. From what I've read, PAL machines that are less than a couple of years old can play NTSC as well as PAL DVDs. How much luck are we going to have with people trying to play an NTSC DVD-R made on my Pioneer 103 on both NTSC and PAL systems around the world? OR would it be better to just distribute on NTSC & PAL VHS and forget the DVD? Aloha, Jon Burkhart (diese posts stammen von der DV-L Mailingliste - THX to Adam Wilt and Perry Mitchell :-) [up] |
